Radiotherapy

INTRODUCTION

The department of Radiation Oncology has been providing services since its inception. Along with the continuation of conventional way of delivering external beam radiation therapy in the form of two dimensional radiation therapy, it has adopted the advancements in the techniques and moved towards more precise way of treatment in the forms of three dimensional conformal radiation therapy (3D-CRT), intensity-modulated radiation therapy (IMRT), volumetric-modulated arc therapy (VMAT) as well as image-guided radiation therapy (IGRT) which are being provided by a high-end linear accelerator.

At present, the radiotherapy machine that are functioning in the department are Low Energy Linear Accelerator 600CD, CLINAC-IX and “The TrueBeam v2.7”.

With the availability of these machines in the department, the staff is all set to start with the newer forms of delivering radiation therapy such as Stereotactic Radiotherapy, Stereotactic Radiosurgery, and Stereotactic Ablative Body Radiotherapy.
